Mood Church — a small chapel online

Some nights you want to sit somewhere quiet and think about someone. Mood Church is a little stone chapel you can walk into from your browser: candle stands, worn pews, a rose window, and the sound of a room that is almost empty. You light a candle, you say the name, and you stay as long as you need.

There is no sign-up, no feed, no streak to keep and nothing to buy. The chapel is free, it has no ads, and it does not track you. When you close the tab, it keeps the light for a while so that whoever comes next sees it.

How it works

  1. Tell the chapel how you are arriving — anxious, grieving, grateful, hopeful, lonely or weary. It changes the reading and the music.
  2. Light a candle on the stand: say who it is for, strike a match, and hold it to the wick. It burns for 24 hours, in the colour of what it carries.
  3. Sit in a pew for a minute of slow breathing and a short reading from the Psalms or the Gospels.
  4. Open the prayer book on the lectern and pray for a stranger. When someone prays for your candle, you see it happen.
  5. Ring the bell on your way out. Everyone else in the chapel hears it.

Who it is for

People use Mood Church for a lot of small, ordinary things: a grandmother in hospital, a friend who lost their job, an anniversary, a baby on the way, or simply a hard week. You do not have to be religious to light a candle. You do not have to explain yourself either.

The chapel is non-denominational and plain on purpose. There is a cross, a Bible reading for the day, and a wall where people leave short prayers. Nothing is asked of you.

Quiet mode

If a 3D chapel is not what you need today — slow connection, small screen, or you would rather read than walk — Mood Church also has a plain text version where you can light a candle and read the wall without any movement at all.
